Default Replacement Forks

Have had my 07 Roadster for just over a year now. I've replaced the fork springs and rear shocks with Progressives. The ride quality is still horrible. The forks are spongy in turns and harsh over sharp bumps. Is this simply a function of the short frame? I'd really like to put some upgraded forks on the front end when I move to a wider front end, probably mid-glide. It seems hard for me to believe that an American product that is comparable, if not better than, the current OEM forks isn't out there. I'm not made of money, but understand that it will likely cost a bit for a quality ride. I'm not looking for a Road Glide quality ride, but certainly something I can feel safe riding while riding on the expansion joint-riddled freeways of LA area.

Thanks gang. Love the Sportster and prefer to ride it over my metric adventure tourer when one up with the exception of the ride quality.

Carpe diem.
