Default Race Tech Gold Valves

Has anyone installed these? Are they worth it? Did you feel any difference?
Im doing the chrome conversion on the front end and thought as long as I have the forks apart I could put them in. I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

They work very well and are an excellent upgrade over stock .. but are pricey
A cheaper alternative is all new OEM parts, Progressive Springs and slightly heavier fork oil
If you do install the Race Techs, I suggest changing out the rear shocks to Progressive coils or anything better than stock.
No sense having a great front end and the old stock rear flopping around

However, most people do not ride their bikes to the limits needed for the Race Tech valves

Just my opinion

I dont think I ride mine to the limit but I just wanted a little bit better ride out of the front. It seems like everytime I hit a pot hole or joint in the road I get rather harsh feedback. Its a shame they dont put an updated fork on our bikes.

I never had them on a street bike, but they worked wonders on the trail bike I had, just soaked up bumps in stead of bouncing, should do the same for a street fork and most likely even a more impressive change, if you do it let us know.

Hey Blukrom,

Let me know if you do go with the caddies/emulaters. I'm looking to do the same to my RK. I'm going to try to get some more info. If you get yours done first drop me a line............if I get mine done first I'll make sure to let you know.

I agree.
You can put some $ into your suspension and it will make a world of difference. It could be as simple as revalving the forks and shocks done by a professional.
There are companies that do suspension work. One that comes to mind is LE enterprises in Campbell,Ca.

Blukrom, I plan on doing this very same upgrade when the bike goes up for the winter. All the research I’ve done so far points to the Race Tech Springs and Gold Valve Emulators as pretty much the top of the line upgrade for FLH/FLT’s. I have a 98 bagger and am putting on a new front end from a 06, I originally just wanted to do the progressive springs but I run my bike really hard and need the handling to be where it needs to be. Most of my “metric” riding buddies have great front ends from the factories, but they also agree with this upgrade as a “hands down” no brainier. I want max handling and max brakes before I put money into engine performance upgrades. I like to open folk’s eyes as to what a bagger can really do with proper training, both slow speed and high speed maneuvers. It is a little more money, but worth it if you want the best.

Okay heres an update on the Race Tech install. The install is pretty straight forward, the worst part is drilling out the stock damper tubes. I made a mistake on the first one an had to purchase another tube. The tube was only $11 but it took over a week to get so the bike sat in pieces in the garage. That sucked. So, important safety tip, when you drill out the extra holes be sure not to drill a hole below the existing OEM hole. The instructions require two additional holes to be drilled in the stock tube, they give dimensions for the spacing but they do not reference which hole is the existing. Anyhow now that its back together I have put a few hundred miles on it and have to say it handles much better! The front end is firm it doesnt dive as much when applying the front brake so stopping is much better. Handeling in general is greatly improved, cornering is much better and the bike doesnt wander around at speed over the expansion joints on the freeway. I really like the improvement. The only thing I would do different is I would have bought the race tech springs. I used the stockers and I think I have too much pre-load so they are a little stiff. So I hope this helps anyone looking to do this upgrade.
