Default Engine Lamp

Similar questions have been posted but nothing directly to this nature.

After about 25-30 mins of riding, my check engine lamp comes on; Then it goes off, then it comes on and that seems to happen until the bike is turned off and cooled, and then happens again once I get going. Seems to happen at higher RPMs once the bike is well heated up.

Anyone have the same problem or know what might be causing this? Ultimately, I am probably going to have to break down and bring the bike into the dealer so they do a diagnotics check. Not too happy about this on a bike with only 3k miles. Perhaps I should have sprung for the extended warranty.

Thanks for any input.

There is a sticky post at the top of this section on how to read the codes.

I have had a similar situation twice. both times came back: P0107 "MAP sensor failed / open" on the code readout - both times after I shut down and re started the engine light went out. After looking up the error and noticing it was a "priority #17" I ignored it and it hasn't re-occured for the past 1,000 miles. sounds like yours is more often though.

I will try to figure out how to get the codes and make sense of them. If Ican, perhaps it will save me a few bucks. I am thinking this could be related faulty battery voltage. I am still running the original stock battery and I am down in HOT FLORIDA. Heat is a bitch on batteries and this one is going on 3 years! At least I have an idea of where to start.

Ok...I need to bring this one back to life...Tried this in the engine forum..no luck...any help is appreciated.....

My bike is a 2005 XL1200c with the stock carb rejetted, pipes and SE AC.

Engine light seems to be coming after bike is well heated up and I am running at higher RPMs. Problem probably happens after 20-30 mins of riding. The light turns on and off intermittantly and it appears if I let off the throttle, the light will go out, but then come back on. I ran some diagnostics and the only codes I am getting are B1121 and B1006. I looked these codes up and I highly doubt it has anything to do with the engine light coming on. Anybody have a clue what I should try next? Thanks.

Well, is the bile running differently? if the codes come on again after clearing, and after the light goes on, It would seem that is what the computer thinks?

Doesnt seem to be running any different. I cleared the codes. Will ride again this weekend and see what happens. This is getting frustrating. Never used to happen before.....

I know what you mean, that light usually isn't horrible news, but it sure ruins your psyche. If it comes on again, run the codes and post again.

I've been told that even if the problem clears up, the engine code light will light up for the next 50 starts. Ifthe problemhappens to return, the light will continue, if not the light code will clear up. That usually happen when you take it in to be read.
