Next month i will be purchasing a Nightster, first thing that i want to do is install mini apes and forward controls. My question is, do the mini apes require longer cables, are they easy to install, and what is required to install the forward controls.
People have done mini-apes with stock cables. I swapped out my clutch cable and my front brake cable. I got the clutch cable from Drag Specialties and I got a stock front brake line from a Street Bob. The forward controls should come as a "kit" with everything you need to install them. You can do them in about 40 min.
I installed my mini apes with the stock cables. Looks kinda janky, but I don't have and extra 300 dollars for cables. The hardest part was rerouting the throttle cables to the outside of the fork. But even that wasn't very hard.
I bit the bullet and got the cables, diamondback, I thnk they are called. Wish they were black, but, they still look good. Did the pipes, forward controls, mini-apes and cables/brake line in an afternoon. Took about 4 hours and a 12 pack of beer.

When I did mine, I got the diamondback cables.
The install was pretty easy, just a little time consuming.
I extending my wires by 4" and decided to solder the extra length on instead of buying the extenders.
The dealer told me that they did one and put the extenders on and the connectors were visible on the side of the bike and didn't look good, so I soldered them in. There are 20 wires that go to the handlebars if anyone is interested.
The biggest pain in the **** for me personally was bleeding the front brake when I was done. It seemed to take forever..
putting mini-apes on this wknd...will be done monday...excited! they didnt have to get new lines, used stock...this will be pretty much all i will be doing (mods) on the bike...still debating on the solo bag...now will be concentrating on the chroming of my girfriends 883...
