Default Need help - guage issues!

I'm a smallishsized female rider who needed to switch my buckhorns to mini-apes for comfort's sake. Well, $1000, a few cables and a 4-inch riser w/a 1.5 inch pullback later, I am having trouble seeing my guages. My mechanic is quoting numbers like $500 additional to install new guage mounts that will tip them back, but I say there HAS TO BE another way! An adapter? A shim? Something that makes the speedometer/tach mount tip back about 1/4 of an inch.

Any ideas???

......Bend it carefully in a vice?

Angled shims could also work.

Thanks! However, I would probably need to heat the metal to bend it(unlikely to happen). I thought of a shim too, but where to I find one that will work? Have checked every resource I know of. Doesn't look like they make one for this particular bike/this particular problem. Maybe I should invent one...

Use a flat piece of steel....you should be able to step it down and then grind it smooth to the thickness you need. Drill the mounting holes first, then work it until it's right. Make sure you leave enough material to keep the bolts flush mounted and not just pinched down on it.

And for the slight amount you'd need to bend based on what you've said, I'm thinking that you wouldn't really need to heat it at all. Just a thought.

I seethat you work at a HS....Have a kid from shop class bend it in a vice, or have one of them make a shim. Just a thought.
