Don't count on the 883 being lighter. Don't know about the other years and models but the 05 883 Custom is actually heavier than the 1200 by a bit.
883's will always be heavier. They use the same jugs as a 1200, they just aren't bored out as much, which means the 883 carries more dead iron.
I would concur that the price seems rather steep. On the other hand, I have noticed that the pricing for used bikes seems to be drifting up--maybe because the factory cut back on production of new bikes?
I just signed into this site to help me understand more about harleys. I am a first time rider like your wife, Zoopman? I am looking at buying the new 2008 either the 883L or the 1200L, I would like the fuelinjection. The difference in wieght are minimal,I have been going back and forth wondering which one to buy as a first time rider. My plans are to go to Sturgis next summer riding over? My good friend from Oregon rides a Harley also and thinks for power it would be better for the 1200. I would love some insite from anyone on what their thoughts on the two bikes for a new rider. I doplan on lowering the 1200L alittle bit and addingextra's for comfort....Lisa
i am i first time rider,my husband got me a 1200, his thinking is that i would outgrow a 883 too fast. since i dont know anything about bikes,i cant give you alot of insite, but i love her, she is a little tall for me so i;m gettting a nightster solo seat, it seems to lover me a little, not wanting to change shocks just yet ,any ideas you guys have are welcomed
