I know this might sound stupid, but I can't seem to find the oil drain plug to change the oil on my friend's sportster. I also need to know where the primary drain plug is located. Sorry for the dumb *** questions, but this is the first time I mess with a sportster. Thanks Roman. Any pictures would help!!!!
it is a 1/2 inch tube coming from the bottom of the oil tank to the left side of the bike. underneat the battery cover tray there is a small nipple and the hose is connected to, there is a clamp here to keep it tight. to change the oil i loosen the clamp and position the hose over a bucket, all the oil in the tank flows out.
check for the hose underneat the battery.
might have changed it in new models, i dont know
as for primary drain plug...... beats me.. when somebody else posts here about where that is, it will help us both!
my primary leaks, so im constantly refreshing it with new oil... which means im not too worried about the stuff in there getting burned or worn
My 07 has a hose hanging down under the transmission area, it has a gear clamp and a black plastic plug (motor oil), the primary has a drain plug in the bottom of the housing directly below the derby cover.
2004 has a hose clamped to the bottom frame below the derby cover, left side. Pull the clamp off the frame to release the hose, unscrew the band, take out the plug to drain the engine oil. The primary drain plug is on the underside of the primary case, left side, below the derby cover. It is not the one with the lock nut ahead of it.
