I would almost bet that it is not threaded but pressed on.

brohrs - thanks for the reply, I too am betting that it is pressed on since I can find no pin or clip holding it on. However, I really don't want to snap off the adjustment lock screws behind the ****, as they are plastic[:@] and I have given it a gootinstrong pull and nothing seamed to budge. well if I break the thing, I'm sure I'll come up with a fix - the frigin thing has to come off some how, might try a heat gun to soften it up a bit, unless anyone can clue me in.

There aren't any destructions with the new one? Only thing the catalog says is that it installs in minutes. Couldn't find anything in the repair manual.

Let us know how you make out.

It's a compressed fit - won't come off unless it breaks (or you cut it off). You can buy different covers for the existing ****, or replace the **** (replacements typically have a set screw). Some have built custom *****, and drilled/tapped their own set screw. Also, replacing the stocker (it's actually an assembly of **** and cable) is only about $15 if you screw up (one of the cheaper mistakes you can make - lol!).
