I have a friend with a 2003 Sporty 883...totally stock!
She has 1900 miles (doesn't have much time to ride)..
I helped her change her oil in the trans, switch from standard to Synthetic (HD). \\;\\\\\\; Put enough to the oil was up to the bottom of the plate in the primary. \\;\\\\\\; The trans now has this annoying whining sound coming from it. \\;\\\\\\; It gets higher pitched as the engine revs. \\;\\\\\\; She says it is shifting fine in all gears.
Is this because the Syn is thinner, is this normal? \\;\\\\\\; Any ideas?? \\;\\\\\\; thanks..
As I understand it should be a full 32 oz in the primary. \\; Did you adjust the chain tension as if too tight it can cause a whine. \\; I went from dino oil to synthetic in my 07 and didn't experience any whine at all... \\;
Agreed, I had that whine issue after the 1,000 mile service, I cured it by dumping the Syn3 and switching to Spectro 75/90. No more whine on deceleration, smoother shifting and clutch operation.
We filled it to the bottom of the plate in the primary as per the manual. I think it ended up being around 24 oz.
In that case you have too little oil. It takes 1qt. The fill to bottom of plate is for adding oil. @ 24 oz you are 25% low on primary/transmission oil.
the bike must be setting level to gage the level by sight and then it is a estamate. put the other 8 oz in and you'll be all set.
