i have a carb'd bike, and I love it.
 \\;
with that said, why in the world would you want to do this???? \\;
seems like a tremendous waste of lots of cash. \\; The efi on the sportsters works very well. \\; yeah there were some fuel pump issues on the 07's but i believe that's all been worked out.
 \\;
the cheapest possible way to do this would be to sell your efi model and purchase a used carb'd model. \\;
 \\;
i dunno, but this seems a bit nuts.

Buy a mikuni 42mm, some throttle cables, a new tank with no pump, a new VOES, and you might be set, but check with \\;an Aftermarket mechanic first.
hmmm. "some issues" with '07s....
mine was 3 weeks old and stranded me. twice. both times i was where a ride home was pretty easy to come by.
there is a "character" chip on the paint of the rear fender where it was stowed into a metal shed in the back of my father-in-law's house the second time, where it spent the night until it was picked up by the dealer.
8800 hundred miles later and he asks me every time he sees it, "Is it running alright? No more problems?"
I won't let my HOG membership lapse and will be upgrading to the road rescue portion before leaving for the 105th..... :-)
What all would be involved in changing my 1200C from EFI to carb?
Don't be dumb (no offense"), there is zero reason to do this other than the "Cool" associated with a Carb in some cliques of "bikers".
You could have maybe made an argument against EFI technology ten years ago, but EFI is 100% better in every way: you can get a more precise burn and get more power, and with the same tune you can be more fuel efficient under light loads. \\; You can go up and down, hot to cold, humid to dry with minimal performance changes. \\; You're unfamiliar with it? \\; Learn.
Yeah, there is a sportster myth that a few years ago thelast of the carbed bikes were outperfoming the EFI. \\; That's becuase of the tune, not the technology. \\; Part of the reason Harley went to EFI was the EPA... an EFI bike can "safely" be tuned 14.6 A/F, where a carb is less precise and needs a larger saftey net, so the tune on carbed bikes was never as crappy coming off the showroom floor. \\; That says nothing about the technology.
1800 miles on my 08 Nightster, not even a hint of a problem. I'm off and running after a 15 second warmup - runs like a champ. Older carb bikes are great but not really sure why you would want to go that route on a new EFI bike.
