PCIII Users
Well, I bought some Rinehart slip ons and a K&\\;N filter. \\; Bought the PCIII to install. \\; I guess I am average or better on wrenching and computers. \\; The mechanical aspect doesn't bother me, it's installing the PCIII and hooking it up to the lap top. \\; Seems a bit intimidating to me. \\; I have read the various threads and sometimes feel more confused. \\; Seem some of the pics on where to place the module and some of the stories on cramming it in there. \\; I have an 07 1200C. \\; Anyone feel that way about installing the PCIII or is it just me?
I found the installation easy on my XL50. Disconnect the ECM from the wiring harness, pop the tray out of the fender, pop the new one in, put the PCIII in the tray, then snap the ECM back on top. Then you just need to connect one end to the ECM and one end to the wiring harness and you're golden.
When you hook it up to your laptop, in order for the software to see it, you need to have your ignition on and your run/stop button set to run. Windows will detect it as an unknown USB device without power. You could also use the adapter to connect it to a 9-volt battery, but I just used the bike's power for mine.
Once the software is up and running and you can see your serial number you just need to open and upload the appropriate map.
I've been playing around with the tuning on mine and actually left the USB cable connected to the PCIII. I wind it up and stash it above the battery compartment. That was, when I want to make little tuning adjustments (decel pop) I can do so without removing the seat.
I'll be honest, I've usually let the dealer do most of my work. But when I got a quote for a new exhaust on my XL50 and they wanted over $1500, I started thinking about doing it myself. I installed the PCIII, SE AC and my V&H exhaust on my own for roughly $800.00.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

Nice description. The PCIII is fairly straight forward to instal and adjust with the laptop. I cut a pocket out of my seat, nightster, so I could use the stock ECM mount because my tire was rubbing the PCIII mount.

To add to the above post,
\\;I installed one on my xl1200 and had big issues with it. I used the PCIII map, but the bike was cutting out, had a dead spot. And at higher gears was running like crap.
\\;Make sure you have the most up to date firmwear for the PCIII. There is an updater that is seperat at their site. SO down load the update and the installer program and run it point it at the update. It fixed every issue I had with the PCIII, still want a custom dyno.
