Disconnect battery?

Disconnect battery?
Well I ran the battery down and need to put on a charger. Manual says disconnect battery to charge. Do you all disconnect? I thought the Tenders that many use have pigtails directly to the terminals, so there would be no disconnect to charge using them? How about just pulling the maxi-fuse when charging to disconnect?

They're just trying to prevent you from shorting the battery out with alligator clips. \\; You are right, the Battery Tender has pigtails directly to the terminals, so there would be no need to disconnect to charge - just be careful with those clips!

I use the battery tender on 3 bikes and my cars. Never have disconnected a battery to charge unless it was already removed from the vehicle. I think thumper is right. Product liability and all.

The battery tender isn't a charger, per say. \\; It will only maintain a battery that has a sufficient charge, and bring it back to peak, then maintain it at peak over an extended period. \\; To bring a dead battery back you need a battery charger that can deliver low amps and shut down (or you shut it down) when the battery is sufficiently charged. \\;
