I just had to start another login name for some reason. Everytime I tried to post something it would give me an error page. Oh well.
 \\;
I have a 2001 XL1200C with SEII slip-ons, hypercharger. I am not sure if there has been any carb work done either.
 \\;
The bike is backfiring on every down shift as well as when i let up on the throtle. Someone suggested I try using a hotter plug. I have not tried that yet though. If that is a good option what plug should I get, I am currently using the standard plugs for the bike.
 \\;
Any other suggestions would be great.
did it just start this or has it always done \\;it? Usually a backfire, on gear shift or reducing the throttle and \\;NOT under accelleration, is caused by unburned gas in the exhaust system mixing with oxygen (plain air) and exploding.
 \\;
Check that the clamps on the mufflers are tight and look for tell tale signs of an exhaust leak both at the head and muffler connections.
 \\;
Are the baffles in there or did a previous owner remove them? Some times enough cold air can be sucked in the back of the muffler to let the unburned gases \\;ignite if the baffles are removed.
Sorry I am just testing something. I am having some problems. I am not able to edit my profile to add my picture. Just testing to see if I can still post.
