RE: How to install a footpeg clip and keep fingers?
I too have been having issues getting the pin off. I have snap ring pliers but they are too big for the small holes on the nightsters pegs. Also does anyone know why the diamond black pegs cant be used on a nightster? They look like they will fit fine. The guy at my local harley parts dept didnt even have an answer for that one and sold me the pegs anyway.

I purchased a dual pack of snap ring pliers that adjust from inside and out. Pretty much identical to the pair that Dorkman posted. I believe the dual back was under $20. They work great! Not to mention its handy having two different sized pliers available.

I bought a combination set. \\; Converts to inside, or outside, straight tips, curved tips, and all the various size tips. \\; Sorry, I don't recall where I got this, but it wasn't terribly expensive. \\; $20 - $25 as I remember.

See those two holes? Take two peices of fishing thread and feed it through them, then pull it over the stud from one side to the other while spreading them a little bit. \\; Thats how i've always done mine.

Not a bad idea when you don't have the proper tool.

I just put on a set of pegs and the points on my SR pliers were too big to fit the holes in the ring.
Use a small pair of needle-nose vice-grips and a screwdriver to jam the bugger on.
