I'm getting ready to do an oil change today. I'm using castrol gtx 20w 50 oil. Was just wondering what types of oil everyone is using and if anyone else using the castrol gtx. MY sport is an 86' 883.
I changed my mind at the last minute today and bought the HD 20w50 oil when I bought my filter. I figured it would be better. But damn! That ****'s expensive!! Hope the wife dont find the reciept ! [:-] Also discovered that changin' the oil on that bike is a bitch! There has got to be an easier way than pulling the oil send line off and draining from there. Its really hard to get to, and even harder to get back on.
Do a search on Oil, we have kicked this around and around...there are many opinions, and right now one of the members is having the various brands of oil analyzed to see what the differences really are.
I hope that castrol is made directly for air cooled v-twins or its NOT a good thing,I use the REV-TECH or harley brand only.
Remember, RevTech and HD do not make oil. The regular HD oil is made for them by Sunoco. Don't know who makes it for RevTech, but I hope they do a better job than the Koreans who make the RevTech motors and trannies!
The Castrol GTX 20w-50 is an excellent oil for motorcycles. It's probably a better oil than the regular HD oil at a much lower price.
Anybody ever notice how these oil things just keep goin' and goin'? Oh well, they can be entertaining.
Hey Mac, the V-Twin oil didn't get here yet, but since I live in boonie-land, it ain't surprising. Soon as it comes in I'll pack it with the Syn 3 and regular Mobil 1 and head it out to the lab. Maybe I oughtta pick up a quart of regular HD oil, too. I'll check with the lab and see if he'll run it.
Mac, it came in today. And I went into the nearest Auto Zone to ask about special ordering some. Happened to talk to the real live manager and he said no need to order it, we have some in back. So I got a quart for $7.99. Sent an email to the lab to make sure their offer of free analyses was still good. If so, I'll be sending 4 qts to them - HD Syn 3 20w-50, Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50, Mobil 1 MX4T 10w-40, and the new version of Mobil 1 15w-50 car oil.
