I don't know if it's the NUT in control of the bike or what, but I'm not getting the mileage I \\;think I should be getting with my Nightster. I get 43-44 mpg and most of that is rolling on I-10 between Milton, FL and Crestview, FL. Now I usually run anywhere from 70-80 mph...is that too fast to get optimum fuel mileage? I tried a tank at 65-70 mph \\;and still only got 45.7 mpg. Does mileage change with the installation of VH short shots/stage 1 mods? Thanks for any help.
Thanks. I suppose I am not going crazy then.

I have yet to get below 45, I usually average between 45-50 mpg. I think it also has something to do with how you shift, so if you go into 2nd at 20-25, 3rd at 30-35, and so on then it should maximize your fuel mileage.

remember, EPA and all those governing bodies do their tests off of 55 mph. That is ideal cruising speed for bikes and cars. So their numbers are going to differ from what we usually get. Going 70-80, you're going to get MUCH less MPG. Yours seems about right.

I filled up my tank this tuesday and rode about 80 miles (highway) when the fuel light came on. This is supposed to happen when there is 0.8 gallons left in the tank right? So that gives me 80 miles on 2.5 gallons. 32mpg. that doesn't sound right does it? brand new nightster. maybe i am calculating wrong, or maybe the tank wasn't as full as i thought. how do you guys do your math for that?
