I'm thinking about gettin engine guards for my XL 1200C. How much of the bike will they protect.

got one, dumped bike in front yard on wet grass, no damage but mud, saved motor and left side from getting muddy and kept it off the ground.
still broke license plate bracket but could have been worse.

I have the HD engine guard for my 07 1200C. laid the bike down on the road to keep from hitting a car. went down doing about 20 mph. Guards keep the painted parts of the road, only scrapes were on the guards and mufflers. Well worth the 200 bucks i paid.

I got mine to put highway pegs on,&nbsp\\; honestly looks and protection were just an added bonus.&nbsp\\; Its a really good ankle saver also.

Put mine on mostly for looks to fill that large area between tire and frame. nice to know it does work if needed.

Keeps the painted parts undamaged when my old lady drops hers at a standstill, also is good for highway pegs!

I had a 1980 Yamaha XS1100S years ago that had the guard. I hated it but thankfully I wasn't in that big of a hurry to take it off. Laid it down one night and it is most likely the reason I still have both legs today.

Protection? I dunno, you tell me: Someone knocked my bike over last month and this is the way I found it

Front brake lever bent, rear foot brake slightly scratched, engine guard deeply scratched, saddlebag deeply scuffed. That's it.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;Notice the pipes are not on the ground. Then again the saddlebags are more expensive than the slip ons!

Without engine guards, I would be looking at possibly footpegs, rear brake lever, a/c cover, tank, handlebars, heated grips, mirror.
