I was about to suggest the same thing. I have never burned my leg on my bike, but I do this sometimes at lights so that the bike doesn't roll any.

You are correct. I'll have to try that out next time I am out and about.

Thanks!

I've never burned my leg, but I'm 5'1" and I have a permanent bruise on my left leg from my foot peg (Nightster, mid-controls.) Still can't figure out when I'm hittin' it. Never had this problem with forward controls.

Maybe you keep hitting it when backing up? When doing so, put the peg up first.

Yep, started doing that, but only manage to remember half the time.
I'm thinking about growing a little taller, maybe that will help.

It's easy to explain to folks how you burned a leg on the pipes, but just try explaining a huge burn/blister on the forehead! I got the bike (Dyna) good and hot, then bent over to check trans fluid. Rested my forehead on the pipe for a second. I looked rediculous with a big scabby forehead for a few weeks. Live and learn!

There was a recall on some Sportster exhausts. Peoples' jeans were getting burnt. A new/different heat shield is the fix from The Motor Company. Have your dealer run your VIN (just call 'em w/ the VIN) to see if your bike is on the recall list.
Good luck.

If I recall, the recall was on 2007 models.
