I have an 08 Nightster and when in traffic or at stop lights I have burned my leg. Has anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions on how this can be avoided?

Pants. I burned my leg one night after deciding it was a good idea to let her run for a bit and mess around while wearing shorts. The blisters are gone now but it hurt for about a week.
LOL! Way to go, Schu! I'm like Slaps though. Rode in shorts once and the radiant engine heat didn't burn me, but was definitely uncomfortable at stops.
harleychicknj, check the forum sponsors or just Google "no more fried thighs" and you'll find a solution. It may not be the only solution, but it's supposed to work. Other accessories based on the same principle are out there too, so check the others out, too.
I always wear jeans or riding pants when on the bike. It is getting burnt on the rear cylinder pipe. It almost feels as if the jeans have started to scorch and will catch on fire at any moment. Maybe my jeans are getting under the heat shield and when I am sitting they are getting that hot. In normal conditions it doesn't happen, just when I am sitting at a light for a long period or in traffic.
Hmmmm.....I live in the DFW, TX area, and for ME sitting at a light for long periods or in traffic is considered normal conditions! I don't have a problem with the pipes, just occasionally the radiant heat from the engine when ambient outside temps are close to triple digits. So this website won't help then because you are getting burnt from the rear pipe? http://www.rjsoriginals.com/

Damn hot with pants on sounds strange to me. I have not noticed it yet but I have not really been on any long rides.
Sounds like you are flat footing (and maybe a little short legged) with both feet. Try the motocop practice of only lowering your left foot, keeping your right foot on the peg / rear brake. I find it a good practice and makes uphill starts much easier also. It is hard to burn your leg if your foot is on the peg.
