have a 2004 XL883C with the SE stage 1 and SE slip ons. The bike has 6000 miles on her.
she started running a little different. The service guru at the Stealership said I may have a plug failure. I replaced the plugs with new ones. She is runnig better.
My question here is.... I looked at the old plugs... at the ignition site of the plug there was black soot and on the threads I found oil.
I wouldn't worry to much about the threads, the ceramic center of the plug is where you want to focus. If he black soot there is dry, I doubt you have an oil issue. It it's a wet black soot, you probably do.
Are you using any oil? If so, how much over 1000 miles?
Some 04's had problems with valve seals and HD redesigned them in 05. You can usually tell if the seals are bad by revving the engine and then letting off the throttle quickly. If you get some smoke out of the pipes as the engine winds down then you likely have bad seals.
