Won't start when hot.
I have a 2003 1200 custom sportster. It just hit 5000 miles and it starts fine when it's cold. After I take it for a cruse and shut it off it won't start. When I try to fire the bike it turns over fine but won't fire. When I give it a little gas it starts to pop and back fire. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like a stuck carb needle to me. My last carbureted bike had that problem, OK when cold but would flood when shut off hot, fine again when left overnight. Does it idle rough when hot? That could be a tip-off to the float problem, mine would idle pretty rough after it warmed up. I pulled the A/C and found raw gas dripping from it, that's how I figured out what was going on.

I had this same thing happen to my bike. It shut off while riding it long distance one day. Took it back to my mech who had just rebuilt my carb 3 weeks prior says he knew what it was already on the phone. my Ignition module was bad, could be your problem. I have also heard of a bad ignition sensor causing this too but more likely is ignition module.
