Clean what ya can, steel wool the rest, then chop it and spray paint her flat black. She lasted this long, she deserves some long hard rides. Congrats on gettin her back she may look rough but at least the maggot that took her lost the braggin rights. Try to get her back on the road in time to ride her to his trial.

chop it, it's a perfect weekend build. You can ride it in between "additions" (which are more like subtractions) and who knows maybe u'll fall in love with ur own hand made handy work.

man that DOES hurt to see.

depending on how much you loved the bike before it was stolen, I would take the time to restore it, but paint it shiny red!

if it were mine, once all the parts were in, i would restore it in a single day. i do my own paintjobs as well hahaha.

whatever you do dont chop/bob it, it doesnt deserve it, its too good looking!

OK, there needs to be some parental guideline's ......PG..R..Or whatever, I open the thread just as my 7year old little man is standing over my shoulder, looking at a pic of a bike that kind of looks like daddy"s but somethings bad wrong.........He now has a slight twitch, but I am sure he will be fine............I feel your pain, but it can only get better from here, There's a Jewell under there, just got to find it!

whoa... you are some lazy **** hahahahahah

its not THAT much work, I could replace all the rusted parts in a few hours, or if they were not available sand and repaint them high temp flat black. a stock sportster with black exhuast and AC still looks pretty cool.

I would also put mag wheels on it. I wouldn't trust rusted spoke wheels for a second on the road.

hell, hey panhead74, send it to me and it will be completely restored within a week. I can't stand to see the bike like this! I'm totally serious, but we don't know where you are without your info listed and if your not close its not worth shipping it.

That really sucks that your bike was stolen and now its in that condition. I personally think you should go the bobber route with it. And I absolutely LOVE that tank graphic.

Thanks for all the replies...I was a little worried about the integrity of some of the rusted parts, too. Rusted spoke wheels are probably not a good idea, and I'm not sure how the belt would hold up sitting in one spot for so long.

My immediate plan is to get her back on the road so I can ride this year. I just renewed the registration and I got a local HD dealer coming by on Monday to haul her to the shop. So I'll see what they recommend.

I'm still inclined to ride her as is and change parts as needed. I was also thinking of new paint...hmmmmm...rattle can black...
