The tank was the first thing that caught my eye - very nice - if you can salvage it I wouldn't change it at all. Going be a whole lot of expense involved to get the bike back to a ridable condition. Wheels, tires, wiring, hoses, fluids, seals, bearings, etc. are all going to have to be inspected and 99% of them replaced.

Personally, due the the cost of inspecting and replacing the weather and age damaged parts, I would buy a roller from Fly Rite Choppers or Sucker Punch Sally that works with a sporty engine and go from there. I'd also try to use that gas tank on the new bike.

Good luck on getting it going again.

Hey Schu...I just checked out your home page...very cool, man! I've been racing Papyrus' Nascar sims since the mid 90's with the original Nascar Racing. In fact, I run in a superspeedway series on Friday nights at Piggz. I see you have a couple of Dodge's Piggz tracks listed. Small world! You tried out iRacing yet? I got an invite to try it in June, but I haven't got around to it.

EVO, I checked out some of the rollers at Flyrite: nice, and the price isn't bad. I'm gonna wait to see what the shop says, though. I got my fingers crossed that I won't have to replace too too much of the hoses, gaskets, wiring etc. If it's going to be that big a job, I might take that advice.

Paint it all flat black, and tear the motor down to be sure nothings jacked up. While you've got it apart, install an 89cu kit and invest in some rear tires!!

I had a bike close to that.It ran good and I loved it.You would be suprised what some chemicals, elbow grease and Ebay would do for it.I would worry about mechanical, electrical and safety issues first. Then turn to cosmetic.

I don't know where in Pa you are, but if you are in Central pa, (hbg., Lanc. Reading area), I can recommend a REALLY good indy mech. that would do the mechanical stuff for you at a fraction of what the dealers will charge. I had a '94 883 hugger that was converted, and LOVED for many years. there is something special about the sporty's we had to "wait for" back in the day? I put almost 90,000 miles on mine before selling it. It's well worth the couple grand you will spend to keep it. The chrome can all be replaced with the stock stuff that others have taken off and just want to get rid of, as can the wheels most likely. You'll be able to get that stuff real cheap if not for free. Check out the swap meets and merchandiser. Good Luck.

That poor thing deserves some luvin. If it were me, I'd carefully start removing all the rusted crap. You need new wheels and tires for sure. Once you get all the "un-needed" stuff off, she will look a whole lot better. Get a new set of chromed drag pipes, ditch the turn signals, a nice solo seat, after market air cleaner, a pair of road king air shocks from ebay, wipe the dust off the paint, and you have a nice Sporty! A little pitting on the aluminum just adds personality to it!
