i have vance and hines short shot tunned with a harley race tuner.. i took the baffles out and it runs the same, will i be ok or am i going to burn the valves up? the bike does not seem like its running lean im going to check the plugs ... what do you guys think? i dont think it could be that lean because its already tuned to them pipes its not like its stock.
When I took the stock baffles out to install the quiet baffles, I could not believe how little restriction and backpressure the stock baffles would provide. I would have to think you will be ok but not perfect. Try it for a hundred mile run. Check your plugs after and also check the gas mileage. If you dont have any decell popping and it runs ok then you should be fine
So Dogg, did the Quiet Baffles make a difference, or not. I have ordered a set of SS and the QB, sure hope I didn't waste the $$$.
Thanks, WD

I never ran the SS without the quiet baffles installed, I switched them out before installing. I just knew that the stock baffles would be to loud for my wife. I based that on the fact that I have V&H big shot duals on my RK and with the stock baffles, they are really loud. Loud enough that many people refused to ride beside or behind me.
The baffles on both pipes are almost identical, just a different size. The stock baffles are completely open and offer zero restriction, all they do is cause a little turbulance with some spiral tabs. The quiet baffles force the exhaust to go over and through a cone and they also have a fabric packing wrapped around them.
I think the SS sound great with the quiet baffles, and the added backpressure should help keep some torque you would loose by going to a open baffle. I have also just changed to quiet baffles on my bike. It is alot quieter now, but still louder than stock. It changed the tone from a loud cracking to a deep low toned growl. They sound almost identical to the SS now.
I dont think you will regret getting the QB. They sound great and you will really appreciate them at the end of a long ride.
dog if it was running lean would my gas mileage be better or worse what do you mean by that? also if it was running lean after about 100 miles it my plugs would be clean right? its not any louder i just get that noise now when i let off that sounds like its suckin in.. i love it haha i just dont want to hurt my motor..
One of my baffles fell out . The screamin eagle II , slip on's, slash downs. I was on a long trip and didn't stop to look for it. It's been running fine. I've gone a 1000 miles since. It's just kind of loud.
I thought about putting the stock pipes back on. Because , I wake up the neighbors when I come home at three AM.
I never had it tuned any differently when I took the stock pipes off and put the slip on screamin eagles on. It runs the same. Hopefully it will have the same reaction in reverse.
What time zone are we in

Reason: Time zone
The quiet baffels were not a waste of money IMHO. I put the SS on at first with out them. The bike seemed to hunt and surge in 3rd gear. It was flippin loud and we were on our way for a long road trip. it was way louder than my Bub7's TD's. She had to ask me if it was even legal?
Since we were going through the NW portion of the States, I didn't want to take the chance on getting pulled over, so I threw some SE's on and changed back to the SS w/ quiet baffels when we got back.
The added back pressure of the QB's made a difference in the hunting and surging. I acctually like the sound of it better with the baffels in. Deeper and not quite as tinny to me.
This was done with the stock A/C and stock map. Recently I added the VIED's from nightrider as I've had good luck with them on the RG and the Sporty runs great. Hunting and surging is gone and no flat spots throughout the whole map. It also reduced the heat as well.
It was up to my wife which way to set it up and she likes the V&H's way better with the baffels than without.
It really isn't that much of a pain to change if you want to hear the differance between the quiet and stock baffels. they change out rather easy. The stock slipon were a pain to take off. To make it easier, put some copper coat or some kind of anti-sieze where the slipon covers the header pipe. Makes it 100 times easier to get them off.
Well for starters, are you running the stock a/c? If not... did you get the Stage 1 flash for the ECM? What year is the bike, does it have the 02 sensors?? I'm guessing EFI since you say you have a Race tuner? The SERT or the HD fueler??
Basically, you should be fine. Give it about 50 miles or so and let the ECM adjust. If you had it tuned to the pipes with the baffels in, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it's hunting and surging, I'd richen up the map a bit.
its an 08 with a stage one kit and a harley race tuner... yes its tuned to the pipes i have (vance and hine short shots) with the baffles in... my question is how would i know if it was hunting and surging????? it seems like its running fine it does pop every once and awhile but i kinda exspected that.. thank you
