Default Wire Extentions

Ok I have 12 inch apes on my 07 xl1200n and I didn't need to extend the wiring for the controls (horn, signals, etc etc) but I've decided that I want the bars a little higher, so I decided on adding 4 inch risers as well... Now I figure that I need to extent the wiring... now I could always cut and splice, but I'd rather not, is there such a device that acts as an extension that you could plug into to extend the wiring?

do I make sense or is the beer clogging my fingers as i type?

You might be able to rig something, but I think you are going to have to buy new wires.

i have considered this myself because i have the 10" harley apes but im going to 16" i think your going to have to splice the wires. it would be easy i would say jus cut it low and put a new cover on it. its the easiest way to go. im considering trying to internally wire them this time to clean up the front end. i dont the the wires jus plug into the housings i believe they are glued or soldered. i just need to find the correct gauge wires.

You mean like a pre-fab extension? I don't know of any..

Yeah, you'll have to splice/solder. This is easy to do. Just keep the same gauge wire, tape it clean, and wire it internally if you can.

dude just cut solder and shrink wrap... if you are going though all that trouble you may as well just run em though the bars and clean it up

are you sure there isnt enough slack hidden behind the headlight or somewhere that you cant pull out to make up for the room?

if not just splice with new wires.

i already did this to my left hand control console after the accident in which the housing moved past the dimple and slices all the wires clean off.

i soldered each wire, one by one, and put heatshrink wrap and covered the entire thing in a small plastic wire cover, it looks like fuel line heatsheild. you can never tell on the bike unless i told you.

otherwise, solder it and run them through the bars so you dont have to use a wire sheild thing

18 gauge and some 16 gauge wire is needed.
On my XLC 2 of the wires are 16G.
Stagger the splices so you don't have a clump in one spot and run inside of the drilled bars.
