Funny thing about all of these bonehead mistakes we all make is that you can't explain why or how it happened. Then you sit back any say WTF, and then learn from it, and hope it doesn't happen again.
Ya know, I really appreciate you guys sharing these things - makes me feel a little better about some my bone-headed stunts! Anyone else ever get off their bike and forget to put the kickstand down?
went out to sit on my new harley in the driveway one night after just getting the bike...was so excited I couldn't sleep, but I had had too many beers at this point to go for a ride, so I am in my driveway just sitting on the bike...put the side stand up...a fact I forgot minutes later when I made my dismount, I tried to stop it falling over, but it was too late! Stupid is as stupid does!!!
Thanks for sharing, now I don't feel so stupid July 21st of this year, I went to pick up my new to me 2000 883 w/ 0nly 725 miles from the dealership. Previous owner had 1k service on it and complete check up and all the good stuff needed to be sure bike is OK. I was soo excited.. My last ride was an Enduro model 35 years ago ( that was the last time I rode a bike too)!! So service manager said "your bike is ready and is parked right infront of the entrance door, keys should be in the ignition". He walked w/ me and Lo and Behold there is my bike parked by the Show Room Entrance. I sat on the bike and a few people gathered around me doing little talk like ,Wow! great showroom condition!! It even smells brand new!! I smiled and thanked them and reach over to the ignition to get ready to crank it up.. oppss no Key!! Service manager ran back to the counter to locate tech who brought the bike out. At this point, I decide to get off the bike to joint the admiring smokers.... Lifted left foot to get off the bike and BAM!! I WAS ON THE FLOOR W/ THE BIKE ON TOP OF MY RIGHT LEG!! Ouch, ump Yes, I forgot the side stand is already up....Now it's funny!! I almost thought of selling the bike because it was too heavy for me..LOL

U are not stupid, after all, U did not go for a ride!!!
My dad once forgot to put his jiffy stand down at a gas station. Lots of people looking straight pipes on a Wide Glide.
One day I was stopped at a light in my town. There was cars all around I was first in line. there was a guy next to me in a cage he was checking out the bike. Some pedestrians walked in front of me checking out the bike and complimented. There were some other pedestrians across the intersection looking at me. I figured I would rev it up and take off when the light when green. I revved it up and stalled it out when the light went green. I felt like the biggest idiot. I also stalled it once at work after I started it I didn't check for neutral and let the clutch out. I didn't drop it but it stalled and there were two coworkers standing 10 feet away.
