08 xl883 warm or cold makes an intermittant clunk, and under power its constant, 3k miles and hasnt been pushed too hard. any ideas short of taking it back to dealer? it sounds like its coming from the front cylinder bottom. yanking the primary cover this weekend to see if anything is flapping around in there.
figured id get that, plan is to take it to one if i can find one that doesnt suck. normal valve noise i understand because its an air cooled. the knocking, im not so sure, it may not even be a knock, but i dunno.
if this is your first sportster, please understand something.. they are noisey as all get out. they tick and click and make all sorts of racket.
that said, have the dealer listen to it, but if I were you, i'd have a good indie listen to it first. then if they think something is wrong, take it to a dealer that doesn't suck too bad.
best of luck, but i think you're probably just fine.
it is my first sporty but ive been around em alot and i havent heard this sound out of any of them, who knows, could be fine, guess i will just have to get some louder pipes
It's assumed that you didn't have the 1000 mile service done at the dealer. I would check your primary chain adjustment first before you go taking it all apart. or like was said, take it to a good indy and have them look at it. Personally, I would take it to the dealer if it is an abnormal noise.
