Seriously thinking about getting a 1200 conversion for my 1999 883. Wondering who has done it or had it done and whether I should stick with the OEM kit or go with any of the aftermarket ones
I have done both my Sportsters one has a Zippers Torqster kit in it and it runs very well, the other has a Head Quarters kit in it and it flat hauls ***.
I would stay away from the Screamin Beagle stuff it's just over priced crap.
Check out both of these manufacters I have suggested they both believe in getting more with less.
Oh boy...
First time I did it I went with Andrews N4 cams, bored the jugs and used Wiseco pistons. After the motor blew (over 10k on the rebuild) the mechanic that tore it down to see what went wrong said he will NEVER use Wiseco pistons. Front piston burned, broke the pin and shot the rod through the case.
After that I bought an 883 off eBay (1,000 miles on it) and went with SE jugs, Andrews N2 cam this time and Buell heads. It's a flat-out screamer!!!
Did wife's Hugger with nothing more that 9.5 pistons and Buell Lightning heads, Supertrapps 2/1 pipe and got 70HP and 69# torque did not change anything else bike hauled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the front piston was burned the bike was running lean or oil starved.Depends on where the piston was burned jmcollison.Maybe it had a vacuum leak on the front cylinder.A couple sets of plugs and a few tuning runs would have told you that.
