Default 1200C Backfire

My 1200C Sporty sometimes backfires when starting. Any suggestions on what may cause this? Could it be a simple as changing sparkpluggs or something more complicated.

What year is it? I have an 07 efi and if you blip the throttle before it is fully warmed, it will sometimes backfire, so I'm careful to make sure it's fully warmed b4 riding off.

My '02 would do the same thing, occasional backfire when starting, maybe 1 in 500 starts, but only when warm. Most of the pre EFI bikes I know of do it to.

What kind of carb do you have? Do you have baffles in your pipes? How long has it been since you started it?

Is it backfiring out the carb or the pipes? Could be time to rebuild the carb....or just have it fine tuned.

It has shotgun pipes with no baffles. I believe it is backfiring through the pipes.

Unused fuel...you're running rich. Rebuild and re-tune the carb. Mine used to do that alot....it could also be because you've got **** pressure from running with no baffles. If they're larger diameter pipes, I HIGHLY recommend running baffles. I put a set of BCT's in my 2" drags and I honestly haven't touched or worried about ANYTHING since I had it tuned at the beginning of the year. No pop, no carb fart, no NOTHING...it runs perfect. EDIT: Loud as a mother-****er, too.

Just a thought.

Will running rich cause the resisdue inside the pipes to be a brownish color instead of black.
