Default Nightster Grip Install

My new grips just arrived for my '08 Nightster. I got the hd black diamond grips. Just wondering if anyone has any helpful advice before i mess things up too bad installing them. I've done a little browsing on the forum to find some general advice (big one was to put a little cardboard in the brake lever).
I am about 70% confident that i can do it.

Thanks!

Nothing to it really. I just did mine. The left side should take about 10 minutes if you can get the old grip off relatively easy. You should really only need the cardboard if you are taking the brake lever off or are changing the brake master cylinder housing. Be careful with the brass ferrules on the throttle cables. I used a small pair of needle nose pliers to hold enough slack in the cable to get the first one out. Once the first cable is out the second one is cake. Just reverse removal for installation. Whole thing took less than 45 minutes.

Thanks. Just getting started. A 45 min job for most, i figure on 2 hrs. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try to do it with removing as little as possible. I'd like to hope that i'll be able to do it with only removing the control housings.

Like Tom said, the right side can be tricky....take your time with the brass ends all will be well...

Ok. Got the old grip off the right side. Got the cable w/ brass end on the front side of the hooked back up with new grip. Having trouble getting the cable w/ brass end nearest the back side (towards seat) hooked back up. Any tricks? Do i need to adjust the throttle temporarily somehow?

I never said it wouldn't be a PIA LOL!! If there is someone there to hold the throttle back (towards the seat) for you, that would probably help. Doesn't take much but that little bit of tension is what did it for me.

Allright!! All done. Only an hour and 10 minutes. That's about right for me. I ended up loosening the throttle cable to give me some slack to work with. I use a marker to mark the position it was in before adjusting. whew........
