Default Radar Detector Suggestions

While I'm not one of those "speeders" who zig and zag on the road. I have a little sports car and tend to have a heavy foot. Surprising that I havent gotten a ticket or even pulled over yet. I think it's only a matter of time. I am looking for a radar detector.

Is there a big difference between those expensive models and the cheaper one's. I'd really like to keep the cost under $150. Anyone have suggestions?

How much does a speeding ticket cost at your "normal" speed range?

There's a huge difference between the El Cheapo's and the good stuff. For under 150, bout all you're going to get is a few pretty lights, an ugly power cord and a little box that makes cute little sounds right before you get pulled over.

That' said, I've had my Solo S2 for 2 years now, and it's never let me down. Well, there was once just north of Oklahoma City on 35, but I was doin bout 135 when it picked up on the signal. No way I was slowing down in time for that one.

I have a Valentine 1, bought it about a year ago. I could not be happier. It has saved my *** 100 times, and normally picks up cops on the interstate from 3 miles or so away, and within plenty of time to slow down in town. It even picks up laser in time to slow down. It picks up laser while cops are clocking other cars around you, something i have never seen another detector do. It's a bit price in the 3-400$ range, but for the price of two tickets, it really is the best on the market. You can get them brand new from valentineone.com for like $399. Or you can get on ebay and occasionally pick one up for less. maybe check around other places online and catch them on sale. I wouldn't waste my money on any other detector. It doesn't do some of the cool sh*t like gps lockout for false positives and stuff, but It's advanced logic mode is pretty smart, and it tells you where the radar is, what it is (x band, K band, or Ka band, or laser) how strong the signal is, and how many there are all the time. It's really nice to have.

It's also not just the cost of a ticket that bites but what it can do to your insurance for the next 3+ years. 2 tickets usually will wind up costing a lot more that $400 in the end.

It seems that after a few days of research the Valentine one is about the best. The Escort Passport 9500ix has also been rated very well but it's $500 (ouch). I think the Valentine is the winner. Considering the cost of a ticket + insur, I shouldnt be foolish and try to save a few bucks. It's off to EBay.

In my younger days , I used a top of the line Whistler. Worked extremely well. But this was back before 65mph, and I don't really see the need anymore.

I bought the Escort ZR3 and Passport 8500 for my '05 Mustang and it paid for itself five times over.

Around here, they hide on overpasses, up on-ramps, in the bushes, behind signs... all over the damn place...

It provides wonderful radar detection, front and rear laser protection. Worth its weight in gold and it WORKS!!
