The ones on the link are the winners of a custom contest. The bikes on the showroom floor here look just like the ones in the States. One big difference is the Japanese models are set up sow they don't get as much torque and power as the U.S. models (glad mine is a U.S. model).

I did see one of those XR 1200's on the floor at a dealer here a few weeks ago. Actually looked better than it did in pics I seen.

Is it just me, or is that "Jesus" on the XL1200R gas tank?

Now I see, it is a contest... Dark and Chrome Contest. I guess those were the top 5 winners... I think that does say JESUS on that one.

I lived in Tokyo proper for 5 years and worked all over the country, as well as in Guam, Korea, and Okinawa.
YES. they have different models and add-ons, but the price of buying a new bike is OUTRAGEOUS, let alone add-ons. You have to pay prefecture tax as well as others, lan office tax, title, license, JCI insurance, and another one for you. The bottom line is that you would be hard pressed to be able to afford one of theirs off the floor unless you knew the loopholes, and bought it prior to returning to the states. With that said, it still wouldn't be worth it in my opinion to the stuff you would have to deal with on this side of the water.
Yeah, did you happen to see the prices on some of those accessories- I wish I could point out how to read katakana so you could see the terminology for price when it is next to a number, but a single floating disc goes for about Ľ330,000 or $298 @ Ľ111 = $1

As stated above too, if the price for a Sporty is Ľ1,314,000 it can go from $13,140 to around $9,000 if the yen rate is Ľ145=$1 (which it got close to that while I was there). Its a bad time to be an American paid in greenbacks over there now since we are getting raped on the exchange rates.
REMEMBER also, this is BEFORE all the extra taxes, licenses, stamps, insurances - both person and vehicle which are seperate. So you can almost add at LEAST HALF the purchase price aside to pay for these things.
Just not a fun plan buying over there like that.
Good option - used from over there. Its a lot easier to get around some of that stuff then.

Alright now I am pissed. How is it that they get such sick rides for almost the same price as what we pay for plain jane versions. I say we all ride to MOCO an protest. We can all were Japanese flag headbands and wave japanese flags. I volunteer to be the kamakazi. Such B.S. I wonder if our metric cruisers look cooler than the japanese versions. Quid pro quo so to speak.

All of those taxes plus putting it thru inspection every 2 years and a road tax every year

Current yen rate is about 95 = $1 so things in the ville have gotten more expensive.

The "Riding Into History" Concours at St. Augustine is an absolute MUST every year. Last year they had some Japanese Harleys that blew me away. I had no idea that Harleys were ever built in Japan. But, there they were. You just don't know what you don't know.
