Default Dumb Question - Intakes

What exactly is the stage 1 SE intake? Is it just the same cover but with a different filter? The guy at the indy said the bike has a stage 1 k&n filter on it already which I was unaware of. When I take my cover off there is just an oval filter sitting on the support with the 2 threads in for the screws.

It's the filter and the backing plate.

What is different about the SE intake compared to the stock intake?

Mine now has that (from what I remember) the oval filter sitting on that little plate, and then the cover goes on and the screws go through the cover and into the holes on the plate.

The stock filter can restricts the amount of air that can get to the filter. A stage 1 intake includes a high flow can and filter. Installing a K&N filter in the stock can doesn't get you much more than a washable filter.

Ok cool that's what I was wondering.

Still wondering even more about how much my pipes are affecting my bikes performance. Don't know if its worth going with an upgraded AC or different pipes. Even though they sound sweet, the bikes slow.

I really need to find a HD place to test ride a stock 883, have to find one around me.

Since your pipes have Torque Cones you're OK there. I'd go with a high flow A/C and a rejet and you will likely be surprised at the improvement.

I would have figured the same about the torque cones. Between when I got the bike (no torque cones) and now, I've really felt no difference performance-wise.

I seriously think my next step should be a test ride, to give me something to compare to.

Run some Sea Foam threw it. Put a high flowing air cleaner on it. Jet it right. Smile and Hang on.

Oh yeah you don't have to tell me bout seafoam, I love that stuff . I was stupid and ended up losing 3 auctions for a HB this past week, sold for about $215 shipped, sigh.

I still plan on getting one though. And I trust this new indy I go to with jetting and such work so that's taken care of.

Drill some big a holes in the back of your stock backplate. Use a uni bit. Also, put some around the edge and you create a poor mans SE. Works good and it's free.
