I think they look out of place, and screwy on any bike. They don't flow with any lines, on any bike. Just out of place in my book.

Engine guards serve a purpose but are not aesthetically pleasing in my book either.

Had a no-speed drop at a toll booth when my left foot slipped on a wet grate. Engine guard had a few small scratches that buffed out. Without them the tank would have hit a concrete ledge and been toast, not to mention damage to handlebars.

Depends on if you have forward controls or not,I would like either a moustach bar or the regular hiway bar,the crash bars I have are hard to get the right combo, for my short legs and enough height away from the brake and shifter.

So assuming someone were to decide to get the bars for protection... Would you guys recommend the HD bars or the after market bars? I've seen some that are much more sharply curved than the HD one? Anyone know what brand they are and would you recommend them?

I've got the black HD engine guards. I think they look just fine, and seem like they would work great. The bike has never been dropped, so that claim remains untested.

I do think it's a smart idea... For many of the reasons stated... Especially for a new/inexperienced rider...

With that said... Will you ever see engine guards on my Nightster?.... F!@k no!... Those things are butt ugly

They were on my bike when I bought it. I think the bike looks better without them. However, when I see a guy on a bike with them behind me I think they give it a cool look. And plus its a place to put highway pegs. I like the way I have mine mounted, never seen em this way before. It lets me actually stretch out, got it from tinkering around with em.

I would get them but the one they make for an 03 is a big box looking thing.I like the newer rounder, smaller ones. But of course they don't make that style for the 03
