Default Engine guards

A recent owner of a used 2003 1200 sportster. It came with no engine guards. Is it a worth whilw investment or just personal preference? I seen bikes with and with out them. What are other peoples opinions?

Engine guards will protect your bike if you drop it. Most people will at some point drop their bike at parking lot speeds in the middle of a slow manouver, the engine guards will prevent expensive damage to paintwork and chrome and may prevent bent bars or broken levers. If you drop the bike at high speeds it will minimize the damage and will stop the bike from pinning you under it as it slides.

An engine guard is also a good place to attach highway pegs.

There are many good and valid reasons to use them. The most popular argument against them is that they don't look good, but that is a mattter of personal opinion.

That says it all... Myself wouldn't be without Engine Guards. Crash Bars whatever wish to call them .. Some think they take away the looks of a Bike personally I think they enhance the look while at the same time saving possible costly damage ..

That's one of the first things I bought when I got my Sportster, highway bars. I wouldn't do without them.

They cost about $200, and will help protect your engine when some ******* knocks over your bike while you're inside. I would say it's worth it. I think they look good too.

Default not 4 me

well...with due respect to the riders who like them....I do not like them.

they might be 'insurance' against 'greater' damage to your ride but I don't like the way they look.

to me they look like 'training wheels'

it's a calculated risk I take....but riding a motorcycle is a calculated risk

no crash bars for me

Love my engine guard. I mounted highway pegs to it and they come in damn handy on longer rides.

When it gets knocked over or you drop it, you'll be either glad you have them or wish you had gotten them. I think they do look cool.
