I fell in love with the Storz xr1200 a couple years ago but 20k?
I'm not going to the race track so a bike that is capable of 160+ mph is useless to me and my ***** are big enough that I don't have to prove that I can weave in and out of traffic and play chicken with 3 ton SUVs driven by people on cell phones and their heads who knows where...

Enter the 09 XR1200 capable handling moderate performance (more power only takes$$) and generally fun to ride. Rode my cousins' friends bike in Europe earlier this year not blindingly fast but fun and it turns.

Finally, BMWs, Ducatis, and Triumphs (even the Jap bikes) break too. Try to find parts for the Euros in a timely manner. for what I want the xr fills the bill.

It's more important to ride than what you ride.
# 365 of 750.
Congratulations on your purchase! Enjoy!

I am going through a similar thought process: XB12Ss or XR1200. The XB is better on paper, less expensive, and it fits me. However, the XR strikes a subjective chord that the XB does not. I simply like the XR, both the concept and the execution.

(Just for the record: I have owned a number of in-line 4’s, the latest being a Bandit 1200S. I am not interested in another, as I prefer to ride a v-twin.)

My wife has a 1200S, which I ride on occasion. It is cool and fun bike, but I still want to add the XR to our garage. That may not be the smartest financial move, especially since we could upgrade the 1200S’ shortcomings (brakes, in particular) for a fraction of the cost of the XR.

The desire for a motorcycle is emotional, not rational. It either speaks to you or it does not.

Probably a mistake. My euro model has been officially stated to have 89.9HP (DMV registration license) and I don't see any reason for the US version to have almost 10HP less. This is for a straight from the factory model, no changes done.

The reason for the apparent dicrepancy is that the Cycle World number is rwhp and the HD # is cranksaft. Either way it's more than my Roadking and over 200 lbs less.
There are lots of ways to get more power out of sporties and this thing handles. Most people modding sporties don't go for brakes and suspension. Now Harley did all the work for you.

Oh, and its not the fact that Harley has no faith in the BIKE, Harley has no faith in the AMERICAN BUYING PUBLIC. Ask yourself why the 1200R got axed. It isnt around anymore because it didnt sell well, which is unfortunate. The was a following for the bike, but not enough people BOUGHT them. The XR isnt a bike I forsee sticking around in the HD line-up. Im actually very surprised that they decided to bring it here. Its a bike I dont see most of the US appreciating for what it is....a balanced bike.
Yeah, I am down 1.4 RWHP/.2 seconds in a quarter mile, have far better shocks, smaller forks but springs that are likely just as good and a bike that rides, handles and brakes quite nicely. Granted it is not an XR and I don't have near the money invested. I agree in that I do not see this bike remaining in the product line any longer than the 1200R model but then again, he XR1000 wasn't long lived either.

your bike that has been modded is down 1HP to a stock XR??? The stock XR is the starting point...not the ending point. Sorry bro, coming out of the box (literally) it is a better bike.

Good link. Thanks. They have some interesting stuff.

However, no new modifications are planned for the Sportster Sport. It is my wife’s bike. She bought it before we were married. She reminds me that it is hers whenever I ride it too often, or starting thinking about new modifications for it. Reminders are usually along of the line: "No more Sportster rides for you!"

Yet, another reason to buy a new bike.

1200R is still in the lineup here as an '09, selling alongside the XR1200. Guess HD figured there isn't enough of a market to support both models in the US.

Are these bikes numbered? What is 365 of 750, and how do you know this? My dealer said Harley is NOT numbering them.

It's more important to ride than what you ride.

365 is the order # of the 750 slated for the first U.S. production run. It just kind of lets me know what my position in line is.
