Default Short jolts, occasionally jerks.. help please

Usually when riding up hills, I will shift into 2nd or 3rd (not lugging) and short jerks of the bike happen. I lean forward and smooth out the throttle action to counter this.

Is this normal? Primary chain? Carb?

Thanks for the replies.

If you're not lugging the bike, I would suspect that the primary chain is loose.

+1 The primary chain tension is the first thing I would check.

Yep, the primary chain on the Sportsters have to be manually adjusted.

Pretty simple procedure to check and adjust if need be.

I agree on the primary...when mine was too loose, same symptoms; adjust, problem solved.
