Hey all... I'm new to this forum, and to HDs, actually. Got an 08 Nightster (all black) about 6 months ago. Now I'm ready for new pipes. I know this topic has come up over and over again, but please bear with me. I need your wisdom. I'm stumped about whether I *need* to get the stealer to remap/Dyno my bike after new pipes, ac, etc. go on or whether I can get away with just a VH fuelpak or TFI?
Here's what I'm looking to get:
VH Black Drak air cleaner
VH short shots
VH fuelpak
I'd like to do all this myself and avoid spending extra $$ at the stealer. Any advice? I'd be grateful, and of course will post pics when I get the install done.
I have a 2008 vivid black as well. I went with the V&H short shots, fuel pack and a K&N intake. Very powerfull. I do all my own work. everything was easy except for the fuel pack I lengthened the harness form the ecu to the fuel pak module. About 4" so that I could mount it where it would fit. There was like 50 wires. not hard just took a minute to solder and shirk wrap all of them. I never rode it in stock trim so as for power gains not sure. But I love the way it goes. I actully cut half the baffle that goes in the end of the pipe as well. I felt like it was holding back to much air. Yet it really isn't any louder. Good luck.

You'll be fine with the fuel pack, and not hard to do it all yourself.

Where did you mount if after you lengthened the harness? After installing mine tonight, I can't stand how tight it is. I was actually trying to think of where to mount it if I got the hanress' extended. Do you have any pics of the modification?
Thanks for the tips chad502, sbergloff, jamesdeanblvd. I'll certainly do these mods myself and be back out on the road. Once we get out of freezing temps, that is. The cold's too much for me!
Save some $$$ and don't change the AC and just do the V&H Shortshots and add a pair of Nightrider 02IED, and you will be Amazed at the torque and sound. word of advise, buy the Quiet B.
and you will like the V&H even more. Better sound and NO popping on Decel, and it improves the torque.
