Slackster, what did you do for the backside of you speedo? did you put anything on it to keep it from being exposed?
The back cover is a seperate piece that moves with the speedo itself. At a glance it looks like it stays put with the stock speedo mount/clamp combo but actually you screw it back on the speedo once you slip the sucker out.
Hey guys, I must be the only one facing this problem...Just started to attempt taking out my speedo and I've gone through my entire tool set but can't seem to find anything that will fit on the nuts on the back cover of the speedo. It's driving me crazy!
What did you use? Slackster or anyone else that can help, please PM me.
Guys, I'm just starting on removing my speedo and I'm already stuck! I can't find anything in my entire tool set that will fit into the screws on the back cover of the speedo. What did you use??? Please PM me. Thanks!
The back is held on by two allen bolts (not sure of the size, but it's small). Get a allen key set and you should be able to get it off.
Hey Iron71tike,
Thanks for replying. I used an allen key, but the size 2 was too small and the 2.5 was slightly larger. I'm not sure if there's anything in between but I'll try to find out today.
Ok. I've completed the relocation but was changing my handle bar at the same time. I somehow managed to lose a screw holding the brake housing and it fell somewhere in the engine/rear brake area. It must be stuck coz I don't hear a rattle anywhere if I move the bike. I've tried everything to find where it's lodged...only thing left to do is lift the bike upside down and shake it out!
Until I develop the superpower skills to do that, what do I do?
Do I just buy another screw and fit it in, hoping that it will just drop out someday? Or could I be causing more damage?
Don't know if I am much help. But most of the screws/nuts that I have dropped have fallen behind the drive belt pulley cover. The way it is mounted and shaped it makes a perfect funnel for small falling parts.
Get a Magnet and trace over the area you think you dropped it at....if nothin else just buy a new one and come directly home cause then you'll find it in less then 2 minutes lol Just the way it happens
