Resurfacing for a bit!
SO...all that being said, did I miss any exciting Sportster bashing threads or kickass bike posts?
The only thing you missed is trading in your Sporty for a BT and getting MSRP like some others did but you wouldn't have qualified, your bike is too old.
.So far the parts pile has grown almost out of control, half of it's in my living room curing or undergoing intensive wet-sanding and multiple passes with rubbing compound and cleaner wax before clear-coat goes on, and the other half is strewn about the garage, lol.
My gas tank is getting painted and the gold leaf and clear will take another week or so, but that's out of the way, the oil tank is being fabbed, it's an 8" steel ball, lol. Similar to a Suckerpunch H-Bomb, but it doesn't cost more than a brand new bike, lol.
I've also got a couple of neat little widgets that I designed that are going through the trial and error phase before we get them just right. Alot of time is going towards making things as opposed to buying them...one it's cheaper, and two I also have better quality control over what I put into this build. The oil tank, pipes, engraved tins, bars, gas tank and some other top-secret stuff is all being made/re-fabbed by hand.
I should have some up of my tank before it went to paint and some of the headlight housing and tail light that I've been working on this Wednesday (my cam broke, had to use my GF's and it's MIA at the moment, lol). And I'll have pics of the completed tank within a few weeks from now. I was pretty excited when I saw the test shots of the colors being used...and the gold leaf is going to look absolutely gorgeous! For the base we're using silver metal flake, with a very deep candy red over the top of that. Thin and sharp gloss black scallops are going to outline the indent and some key lines of the tank, and gold leaf blocked scallops are going to be laid into the indented portion. On top of it all....enough clear to make you go cross eyed and weak in the knees just looking at it.
Oh, and I do have the weld-on now, but it's sitting for a little while longer until my oil tank and battery box are finished being made. I've had to hold off on powder coating for a while because I decided to make a bunch of parts instead of just buying them, so to keep the cost and possibility of mis-matched shades of black down everything's just going all at once.
Ask your powder coater to list the powder used on your receipt each time you have something done so it's easy to match it later on something else.
