Got a laser level in the toolbox? If not, sight along the top of a normal carpenter's level. Top edge of the beam should be no higher than the top of the headlight. A few inches lower than that would be ideal. High beam should he nearly horizontal.

For one of my mods all I did was lengthen the OEM bucket.(see last post) I just wanted to get the light adjusted to as close as possible to save a bit of time thats all.

Once I get the motor back together I'll fine tune the light adjustment and put a mark on the wall where I park just to make sure it stays that way.

There is a chome hood and a custom bag that goes on the OEM mount also.

In all seriousness Freebird, what are you doing....making a headlight bucket with rigid/fixed mount with no side to side or vertical adjustment?

OhioSkully is right except that the 16.79 inches is the distance down from the headlight at 12 feet distance. The height above the floor is the difference between 35 inches and 16.79 inches. This is 18.21 inches. Make it 18 and a quarter inches and call it good.

That would fly, except that the headlight isn't projecting from the floor - it's actually aiming down towards the ground, not up.... Your idea is very good, but you're starting from the wrong spot.

The trigonometry is easy, we just need to know the height of the headlight that's supposed to shine 35" off the ground at 25'.

Now, you can do some trigonometry or you can use the formula I just derived for you.

X = 0.52 * H + 16.8

where
X = height of center of light spot at wall 12' away
H = height of center of headlight

(sorry, I couldn't resist the excuse to do some math - it's the enginerd in me.)
