I've thought about it... Is yours pretty exact to what the service manual says? and isn't there a paper gasket that needs replacing every time in the chain inspection cover too?
The first time I changed out the primary/tranny fluid in my 2005 1200C (the first day after I brought it home), I did remove the derby cover to see how much fluid it took to bring it up to the correct level on the clutch pack.
I wrote this down for future reference so I wouldn't have to keep pulling off the derby cover for a simple fluid change, as I don't like to make things more difficult than they should be......
On my specific 1200C it took exactly 1 quart.
There is a rubber membrane type gasket behind the primary chain inspection cover, and I've used the same gasket over and over without any problem.
