I am getting a new derby cover and was wondering what steps I need to install it. I have read other stuff about the gasket falling out etc. So when I take out the screws from the old ones what exactly shoud I be doing? Don't want to mess up anything. It seems easy enough but just want to make sure.
Thanks alot.
I saw the "disregard" in the cousin post, and was wondering whether it was because of the repeat post or because you figgered it out.
If the former, when you get the new derby cover, get a new gasket, too. Put the teensiest dab of non-hardening gasket compound, or silicone compound, in the groove at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Position the gasket and install the cover.
thanks alot for the info. I will be picking up a new one on Tuesday and installing it. Nothing will fall out when I take it off right?
Thanks again.
Well, I have heard rumors of one guy replacing the derby cover with a fancy chromed one. When he pulled the old one off first his clutch came out, followed by the primary chain, then the motor sprocket. After that the flywheels slid out as a puddle of steel, followed by the rods, pistons, and valves. Dude finally slapped the cover back on when the heads started caving in.
It's that chrome stuff; bad for yer bike, bad for yer wallet. Don't say you ain't been warned!
