How are ape hangers measured? I would think from riser to bend for grips, but some of the pics i've seen on here look really high. Some of you say you've got 12'' apes and they look like there shoulder height. I would like to put apes on my bike but don't want extreme height
Most reference overall hgt. from bottom to top bend but in most cases the grip end measurement is the true hgt.
Mine are mini apes and some vendors claim they're 10-12" apes when in reality the grip end rise is about 8+ inches and to the top bend is about 11". If I had them mounted on 1" risers vs. the 3" I have they would be barely taller than stock bars on the stock tall pullback riser. It also depnds on how far they're pushed fwd. as looks can be deceiving.
You can either mock up some apes out of cardboard and see what height you want or put your hand out where you feel comfy and have some one measure from the riser to your hands and find the apes thats close to what is measured..
well, do you have stock risers or are you going aftermarket? you are right about how they measure, its not always where the hands are placed but at the highest point, mine are 18's with one inch risers, my bars are a little higher than my eye's and i'm 6'3",
here is a pic, same size bars just different......well diffrent lots of stuff but you can see how high
