Sure, I use the "friction lock" all the time on the highway. Contrary to the name, it doesn't "lock" the throttle but adds enough friction to keep it from closing automatically. Adding a Throttlemate to the star wheel makes it very easy to "turn on / off".

No doubt, a bunch of peeps will jump in and proclaim how unsafe it is, but used at the proper time and place it's a perfectly safe practice. There is no more reaction time required to twist the throttle closed as you grab your brakes and they can both be done simultaneously in an emergency.

Reducing rider fatigue, increases safety.

I can't proclaim it unsafe. I use the friction lock too. As CHarley said, it isn't hard to twist the throttle back.

I've only had one problem with it. After my first long trip, back when I first bought it, I was buzzing through town and my throttle kept sticking. Well I was on my way to the local bike shop. So Iasked the dude owner what could make my throttle stick. He started naming off a few things while he was walking out to my bike. He checked a couple of things then he unscrewed the throttle lock. Didnt I feel like an idiot. He just laughed and slapped me on the shoulder. Its pretty good but I unscrew it as far as it will go when I'm done with it. The vibration I guess.

Thank you cHarley for this link. I often wonder why they don't improve that damn dial with a switch like this throttlemate.

I use the Throttlemate and love it. Got it from someone on this forum, for free.

I haven't used the friction lock much (lot of hills around here) but I do use a Throttle Rocker.

The throttle rocker in the link is the exact one that I have. I like it and will probably always use one of some type or another. Before I got it, my wrist would get tired and my thumb would start to hurt or go numb. Now I don't even have to grip the throttle, just rest my heel of my palm on the throttle rocker. You can cruise along with your fingers (and thumb) relaxed.
