883 gearing
I tried a search but didn't find what I was looking for.
Have a 08 883XL. 51rwhp. Getting ready to make it a 1250. But............I am getting ready for a road trip before the upgrade. I need to work the engine just a little less at interstate speed. If I change the counter sprocket to a 29T or perhaps a 30T, what percent of speedo error will I see? Would it give me 5 mph difference at same RPM?
I know that some also change the primary to a 38 which then makes it same gearing as a 1200 but didn't really want to do that. I still want to be able to eat up factory 1200's from stop to stop.

Here is a simple formula. We will assume an indicated cruise speed of 70mph.
(new gear teeth / orig gear teeth) x indicated speed =70 = actual speed.
So:
(new = 29 / org = 27) = 1.0741 x 70 = 75.19 actual mph (speedo will be indicating 70)

Went with the Tranny 29T after did the 1200 Big Bore, still fast enough out of the hole .. but eases up on the RPM's when running at Highway speeds which spend 80% of my time on it doing ...
