This is Catlkn's boyfriend and i am signed on her account to ask a quick Nightster\V&H question. We are working on her bike (1200n). We put the short shots on with the fuel pack. The factory numbers seem to give a really rough cold start on the bike. Decel pops, back firing, etc. Once the bike warms up from riding a short bit it runs as smooth as it can. So we email V&H explaining the issue. We get an email back saying this is normal. Personal this doesn't seem normal at all. We rephrased the question in another way and resubmitted an email request but just wanted to find out how many other people have seen this issue as well.
Thanks for any information you can provide, even if it's just a "Hey... happened to me to!"
I have read about this happening a lot with the Fuel Pack and V&H usually helped the people out with setting it up. From what I have read, there is a selection you enter a value into that usually helps the problem, if you search for it you might be able to dig it up. I run the PC III because of the user adjustability/flexibility and if I had to do it all over again, I would pony up and get the SERT or PC V.
Her config is:
Model Exhaust Model Exh P/N Year ci/cc ECM Baffle Air Filter Value Reference
SPORTSTER 1200 | SHORTSHOTS STAGGERED | 17219 | 2008 | 1200 | STOCK | QUIET | HIGH FLOW | FP-0682
The map states it should be FP-0682 with those settings. For those that have seen the same issue and gotten a new set of numbers returned for the Fuel Pack please let me know. Right now they are saying that the cold "Start" (sorry about the title) issue should be expected and not sure i agree with that!
You might consider throwing the quite baffles for a little more back pressure. I love the way mine sounds with them.
You saying take them out? Right now we have them in. Prefer the deeper sound. Still waiting to hear back from V&H. Of course when they say 24 turn around the mean 23.5 hours exactly before you will get an email back fom us!
I missed the "in".lol If you're already running them leave them in. You obviously know what I mean when I said I like the sound with the quite baffles. Hopefully V&H takes care of y'all.
if ur talking about when u first start the bike cold, and it seems to choke out while warming up, ive had that same problem, i called fuel moto the guys that sold me the PCIII, i talked to keith he was telling me to dbl check the throttle pos. with the bike running and at idle, make sure that its at 0%, mine was so that didnt help, then i also had alot of decel pop at all times, he gave me a new map setup and that fixed it at all rpms, much better but i still run into the cold start choke intermittenly(sp) but ive learned to deal with it cause no one seems to kno how to fix it from who i have called around at least.....
