Default 883 to 1200 conversion

I have a chance to pick up a 1991 Sportster. Is there any was to tell if it has been converted from a 883 to a 1200? Any marks, on the cylinder or anything other than pulling off a head and measuring the bore?
Thank for you help,
Tom

Ride it! It's the only way (that I'm aware of).

That's all and good, but I have never ridden a 883 or a 1200, so I would not know if it was a 1200 or 883. This is my first introduction to Harley's in general.

Actually, the truth is this is my youngest brother's bike. He passed away unexpectedly at age 38 (last month). I am probably going to get his bike. It's a 1991 883 Sportster with 7300 miles on it. He put on the larger gas tank and I'm nor sure if he did the 883 to 1200 conversion. I will get the bike either way, but I would like to go to 1200 unless it's already been done. Is there no was to tell?

Cool

Thank you, I was quite a shock. Massive heart attack. You never know when you're number is up. I'm 51 and I have a 2008 Vstar custom. Nice bike, I never thought I could afford a Harley and one drops in my lap. Not exactly how I would want to get it. At this point it really doesn't matter if it's a 883 or 1200, but from what I have read in the past couple of weeks, this bike has a LOT of potential. I looks like it will turn out to be a "project bike" for me. Once I get it modified to where I want it, I will give the wife the Yammi.
