So, while replacing my throttle and idle cables, and upon reassembly, I notice this tiny spring sticking out of the lower throttle housing toward the brake lever brace. The MoCo manual doesn't mention this at all in the cable replacement section. So...
Took the frickin' thing all apart again only to find that the hole the spring is sticking out of is fubar'd. And then I find it's the stop light switch, and is supposed to be a spring-loaded plunger connecting with the brake lever. What I have is a broken off plunger tip, etc. I don't remember forcing anything, nor any breaking or cracking noises. No pieces of plunger even fell out but I found the tip of it in the brake lever cavity. Can't even tell if the plunger itself is pot metal or plastic.
Is this switch a replaceable part? I'm in the process of locating another one, but do I have to replace the entire (chrome) throttle housing? Anybody have just the switch they can sell to me?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. '92 XL1200. Thanks.
Yeah, the manual doesn't even show it in the blown-up diagram of the housing! I had to dig around in the front brake M/C section to know for sure.
Anyway, it looks like it's available for cheap. But if anybody has an older housing with the plunger switch still in it, I'd rather buy from a fellow board member.
$25 at the delaer for mine. I still ahven't put it in. I think it's been over a year. It's till right here on my desk....LOL!
Well if it isn't installed, is your brake light constantly on? And if you don't need it that badly, I'll buy it from you. Don't yet know if Bartel's has one in stock. I'm in LA and could prolly pick it up tomorrow. Tonight, even. I'll have most of the day tomorrow to finish it up.
When I swapped my bars, I was able to go to all the sections it noted for removal and it said to place a piece of card board x amount thick in between the leaver and housing due to possible switch breakage. I also performed a search on the site and noted the use of a piece of card board also. Hopefully you get your part and get it working.

What happens is the brake light does not light up when you use the front brake only.
Mine is not working. my brake light was staying on all the the time. I noticed riding home tonight that when I use the front brake lever it goes from on to not (bassakwards). I picked a new one up today and hope to install it this weekend. A friend of mine told me that using a car wash sprayer will make them go bad!
