Sucks you have to jump through all those hoops then pay that much. Rent a Godzilla suit and go terrorize some of them

Well, I went in last night and talked to Jeff (the salesman) and he told me that the 883 Iron was absolutely not a posibility because it's so new. Would end up costing around $14,000...

So, basically, I put $1800 down on a sportster that I have no clue what it's going to be, but I will get one when the next shipment comes in. I'm hoping for a Custom Low.

Here is what I have planned:
-Custom tank (ones on the Nightster and Iron. I know if I get a Custom 883, it will already have it)
-Engine powder coating (I HATE CHROME! Chrome on my bike will be kept to the minimal amount in every way possible.
-Misc. powder coating
-Mini Ape bars
-Screamin' Eagle breather (or something of the sort, most likely, will be something else.)
-New pipes. Will def. be short, black, and edgy. I want it to scream and look badass at the same time.
-I really want to shorten the rear fender, and get rid of the ugly tail light assembly, so I will have to work that out somehow...

Anywho, what do y'all think about all of that? Mind you, it will take place over a period of time, the tank and engine will most likely be my top priorites. I wish I could get it all done at once, but that's just not very financially possible.
I will definately be posting up some pics when I get it and when I make changes.

I think you have some confusion on models... It's either a custom or a low, not a custom low. The 883 custom has the large 4.5 gallon tank. All the other models have the 3.3 like the iron/nightster. Also, none of the 883's have any chromed engine parts... Still probably want to powder them black though. Enjoy whatever you get!

Also, buying used is out of the question. I have tried and tried to find a used sportster. Hell, I'm not even particular on the year, but I can't find one. There just arn't that many on the island.

I did read your first thread, didn't correllate the two, sorry.

If you're happy with the deal you're getting, then who are we to tell you any different. My bad.

Oh, and you want the Peanut tank, and then take it from there......Have fun!

I was in Okinawa back in the mid 60's. I was an Air Force brat.

Thank you for your service to our country and I hope you enjoy your new Harley. I'll bet you can go from one end to the other of the Island on one tank of gas!

Hell... an 883low is almost identical to an iron anyway... the only difference is everything is black and its got different bars and rear fender. I personally think that you would get more satisfaction out of customizing it yourself... to me buying any of the factory "dark customs" is like going to jcpenny and paying 200 bucks for a pair of ripped up jeans just to look badass or somthin.... That look should be earned, not bought all ready made. anyway my $.02

Yea, I completely agree.
I was originally wanting something that I could just ride, but now that I think of it, the Iron or Nightster just isn't EVERYTHING I want. So, I thought to myself, why not make it everything I want? I'm really excited to watch this thing evolve. I'll make sure to take lots of pics for everyone. 19 years old, and already gonna own a Harley. I can hardly believe it. My dad is 42 and he can't afford one yet. Haha.

And to all, you're welcome. Being over here isn't THAT hard. Being away from your family sucks, but I kinda like the island. Now, if I deploy, that'll be a different story, and you can thank me all ya want and I'll still hate it. :P

I've been trying to find a way of remounting the license plate and changing the tail light... I like how the Iron does it, and I like the more agressive fender. Can all that be bought seperately?
Also, what kind of tuning has to be done once you put a set of short pipes on an 883? Any drawbacks??

You don't "have" to do any tuning if you just replace the pipes. It's only after you change the A/C for more air flow that you'll "have" to do some tuning.

I read the first thread Thet and Good Luck with your New Ride ... some chime in here sometimes without knowing what you were up against ...
